Home buyers 'eager to take advantage of new-build deals'

Potential home buyers are becoming increasingly eager to take advantage of the many good deals that are currently being offered by new-build developers, one expert has stated.

David Bexon, managing director of SmartNewHomes.com, says that his company's New Homes Index has shown that new-build properties have been "consistently undervalued" for some time.

He states that the recent rise in sales of new homes in London could be attributed to the reasonable deals that have been on offer from developers in recent months.

Mr Bexon's comments come in response to recent statistics from Knight Frank, which reveal that sales of new-build properties in the capital city increased by a year-on-year figure of 214 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Furthermore, developer Persimmon's sales figures for 2009 show that Mr Bexon may be correct in his belief that new-build properties have been selling for less than they were in previous years.

In 2009 the average selling price of a new home was £160,513, compared to £172,994 in 2008.
