Property News - 'Light at the end of the tunnel' for buy-to-let landlords

Buy-to-let landlords are now beginning to see the "light at the end of the tunnel" as rent levels start to rise, one expert has suggested.

Nigel Lewis, property expert at FindaProperty, says accidental landlords are leaving the market as housing supplies tighten and while rents are still a long way off their pre-credit crunch levels, they are gradually rising.

"Strong demand should ensure that returns for serious landlords continue to improve over the course of the year," he states.

Mr Lewis' comments come in response to new statistics from the website, which reveal that rents have risen by an average of 0.7 per cent in March, marking the second consecutive month of increases.

The standard monthly rent currently stands at £820, which is £16 higher than in January.

Mark Garner, managing director of LettingZone recently advised that the buy-to-let market has "never been better" for existing professional landlords, with interest rates low and rental yields rising.
