New-build housing market 'offers clear advantages'

Those looking to purchase a property in the UK may be wise to opt for a new-build home, as it has been suggested that they offer clear advantages to homeowners.

Steve Turner, head of communications at the Home Builders Federation, says there is a range of incentives on offer for those who purchase this type of property, as developers are able to assist buyers in a way that second-hand sellers are unable to.

"From a customer point of view, new-build is extremely attractive because prices have gone down and because of the incentives that remain in place," he states.

However, Mr Turner goes on to add that until the issue of mortgage availability is addressed, the new home market will continue to be constrained.

According to new statistics from SmartNewHomes.com, the average value of a new-build property declined by 1.6 per cent in February, marking the second consecutive month of falls.
