Number of sub-standard Hip providers 'concerning'

Homeowners looking to sell their property in the near future may wish to take note of one expert who has advised that the number of sub-standard Hip (home information pack) providers is "concerning".

Mike Ockenden, director general at the Association of Home Information Pack Providers, says that he is anxious that there are "cowboys" out there who are providing those selling their homes with poor-quality products.

His comments come in response to new statistics from Birmingham City Council Trading Standards and the Property Codes Compliance Board, which reveal that nearly one-third of Hips in the area were found to be unsatisfactory.

Mr Ockenden states that he feels there needs to be stricter regulations for Hips providers to adhere to, with Trading Standards properly policing the sector to ensure that home buyers and sellers are being provided with accurate information.

Hips allow a potential buyer to view relevant information free of charge before they commit to purchasing a property.
