Buy-to-let property market 'improving'

The buy-to-let housing market is improving for landlords, one expert has suggested.

David Whittaker, managing director at Mortgages for Business, says: "The market has turned and there is more money available for those of reasonable credit and reasonable organisation."

He states that the property sector is back to where it was four and a half years ago, the only exception being that riskier mortgage products have been taken off the market.

However, Mr Whittaker goes on to add that the reason buy-to-let properties are now more reasonably priced is because finance is harder to come by.

"You can't have your cake and eat it," he advises.

His comments come in response to new figures from LSL Property Services which show that 28 per cent of landlords hope to expand their housing portfolio in the next year.

Meanwhile, 61 per cent of buy-to-let investors say it is more difficult to secure a mortgage now than it was three years ago.
