Property News - Change of government 'positive for housing market'

A change of government in the upcoming general election would be positive for the housing market, one expert has suggested.

David Amstell, founder of Briffy.com, says the Labour party is currently viewed by many people in the UK as having "screwed up" the property sector.

"A change of government - even if it was the other way round - would make people feel like something positive is happening," he states.

However, Mr Amstell goes on to add that first-time buyers will not be able to get onto the property ladder until the issue of money availability is addressed. He suggests the restriction on high loan-to-value mortgage deals is having a bigger effect on the housing market than the current government.

His comments come in response to recent data from FindaProperty.com, which revealed that some 39.1 per cent of house hunters believe the introduction of a Conservative government would improve the state of the housing market.
