Homeowner price confidence 'is encouraging'

The recent survey by Zoopla.co.uk which revealed that 81 per cent of homeowners are positive about house prices rising is an encouraging sign, an expert believes.

Selwyn Lim, director at Mouseprice.com, claims that while the figure of 81 per cent may be a tad optimistic, the fact that people are confident in the market bodes well for the sector overall.

He adds that this is only likely to improve when the results of the upcoming general election are known and people feel more certain about the future direction of the market.

"It is definitely encouraging and I think that once the results of the next general election materialise, then there will be a lot more certainty about what will be the state of play for the next five years," Mr Lim states.

The study by Zoopla.co.uk found that homeowners predict house prices to jump by 5.7 per cent by the end of October this year.
