Property News - Housing market 'much flatter than it used to be'

While house prices in the UK may fluctuate slightly in coming months, the property market as a whole is set to be much flatter than it once was, one expert has stated.

A spokesperson for the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) suggests that not a huge amount of movement is expected in terms of the numbers of people buying homes.

"There'll be a few ups and downs as we go along which is to be expected but at the moment there are very, very low levels of transactions," she says.

Her comments come in response to new figures from Hometrack which show that house prices increased by 0.2 per cent in April.

The CML spokesperson goes on to add that many people who are thinking about moving house seem to be holding off as they are feeling uncertain about the state of the economy and the upcoming general election.

According to the latest housing index from Rightmove, in March there was a virtual price standstill with homesellers asking just 0.1 per cent more for property than the previous month.
