Admin side of green homes 'unbelievably burdensome'

Developers are often unable to look at sustainable options when it comes to building new homes because the administration involved with such measures are "unbelievably burdensome", according to one expert.

John Tebbit, industry affairs director at the Construction Products Association, says: "Admin costs actually stop you doing things which are more sustainable and that applies all the way through."

He states that builders have the problem of trying to adopt to green schemes where administration costs are low, while delivering positive results.

Mr Tebbit's comments come in response to new research carried out at the Sustainability Now event, which revealed that 72 per cent of the British public are of the opinion that with the onset of a new government, now would be a good time to overhaul green legislation.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change recently announced plans to allow organisations to opt for feed-in tariffs, which will save money on fuel bills as well as reducing carbon emissions.
