Lettings business is on the up, according to landlords

Landlords are the happiest they have been since 2007, according to figures from the National Landlords Association (NLA).

House price rises and property demand have contributed to the results, which show that nearly 60 per cent of owners are expecting good things for their business over the coming months.

Chris Norris, NLA policy manager, is pleased with the results despite "considerable challenges" in recent times.

"Everything from longer void periods to an increase in rental arrears have taken their toll on landlords' optimism. However, it is good to see we may have turned a corner," he said.

More than a quarter of landlords also showed renewed faith in the UK financial markets, predicting that things will pick up, an increase of five per cent from last year.

The survey is carried out quarterly by the NLA, which asks 500 owners to rate their lettings business over three months.

In order to secure links with local authorities, the association operates on a regional basis - organising consultations, meetings and events.
