FTBs 'struggling to get property in some areas of the country'

There are some areas of the country where first-time buyers (FTBs) are struggling to get homes, it has been suggested.

According to Gary Richardson, chief executive of the Countryside Foundation for Education, communities, local councils and planning authorities are becoming increasingly aware of the need for affordable housing to be made available.

He added: "There are pockets in the country where the house prices have made it absolutely impossible for the local people, who have perhaps been born and bred in the area, to get a foot on the property ladder."

His comments came in the wake of the release of a Eurobarometer survey, which showed that individuals with homes in the West Country counties of Somerset and Wiltshire are the most content in the UK, while those in Sheffield and South Yorkshire ranked lowest on the scale.

Mr Richardson also claimed that people who reside in the countryside have a different way of life than their city-dwelling counterparts.
