Property News - Landlords 'happy with new government plan'

Landlords have welcomed news that the government plans to end shared housing planning regulations and replace them with a more targeted approach.

The National Landlords Association has been campaigning for the move and chairman David Salusbury is glad the new coalition is rethinking the rules, as he believes current regulations are causing "uncertainty and confusion".

"We are pleased to see the new government responding to calls to rethink these unnecessary planning burdens on landlords," he added.

The NLA has advised local authorities that they should tailor recent rule changes to the areas where shared properties are causing the biggest problem.

However, until the new changes are implemented it is urging local councils to utilise shared housing in order to meet needs.

Tenants who receive local housing allowance funding also appear to be causing landlords some financial trouble and the NLA is hoping the government delivers on its promise to tackle the problem.
