Mortgage lenders 'making more products available'

People looking for more choice when picking a mortgage are being helped by lenders, which are increasing the number of products on offer.

That is according to Ben Wilkie, editor of What Mortgage, who claimed firms are keen to attract more customers as the market begins to recover and are boosting their ranges to do so.

"I don't think anyone is completely confident yet, but it is certainly a sign that lenders have the ability to fund mortgages at the moment and that they are ... appealing to customers," he explained.

Mr Wilkie added that banks are beginning to realise there are currently many people looking for a mortgage and are responding by trying to help them with a wide choice of products.

Figures released by Mortgage Brain this week indicated intermediaries also now have over 6,000 schemes to choose from - that level having been reached for the first time since November 2008.
