South-west 'shows strongest house price growth'

The south-west outperformed other regions in terms of house price growth over the second quarter of this year, it has been claimed.

According to Nationwide, properties in the area rose in value by an average of three per cent during this period compared with the first three months of the year.

In addition, there was a rise in the annual growth rate of 12.5 per cent, which was up from the 8.9 per cent recorded during the first quarter.

Meanwhile, the value of homes around the UK in general went up by 1.9 per cent between April and June, the firm noted.

Annual house price rises across the country averaged 9.5 per cent.

Responding to the findings, Martin Gahbauer, Nationwide's chief economist, said: "The second quarter of 2010 saw continued house price growth across nearly all UK regions."

Recently, LandlordZONE.co.uk director Tom Entwistle suggested that property is a relatively safe investment for people to make.
