Homeowners 'need to make more' energy-efficient improvements

Homeowners are not making enough energy-efficient improvements to their homes, despite being aware of the benefits, one expert has suggested.

Spokesman for the National Home Improvements Show Michael Holmes said individuals now have more awareness on how they can reduce emissions but are not implementing the changes.

"Future savings on both money and reducing carbon footprints over time is not motivation enough for many home improvers to outlay cost now," he added.

Mr Holmes noted a lot of people are cash-strapped and making green changes is advisable as they will recoup their costs at a later date.

He indicated Brits are good at looking at "immediate" benefits and homeowners need to understand making a dwelling more energy-efficient is not cost prohibitive.

The specialist's comments follow the release of the Home Remodelling and Repair Index, which revealed 77 per cent of American homeowners are carrying out improvements to boost the value of their abodes.
