Property News - Brits 'are worried' about the state of housing market

The UK does suffer from housing problems, a new survey has indicated.


According to a report carried out by YouGov on behalf of the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML), 96 per cent of Brits are concerned about the housing market.

The fact young people cannot get onto the property ladder was cited as the biggest worry by 80 per cent of respondents and 37 per cent noted the lack of supply of new homes is proving difficult.

A total of 37 per cent stated the cost of moving house is a drawback, while 48 per cent observed too many people are on waiting lists.

CML chief economist Bob Pannell observed most people support tighter lending criteria, even though 80 per cent revealed they are worried about first-time-buyer opportunities.

"Overall, there is a strong case for saying: be careful what you wish for," he added.
