Property News - Conflicting house price figures 'produced all the time'

Conflicting house prices still "paint a similar picture" despite not agreeing on whether the cost of buying a dwelling has risen or fallen.

That is the view of Liam Bailey, head of residential research at Knight Frank, who commented after contradicting reports on the market emerged.

He claimed studies that disagree on property prices are produced "all the time" and Brits should not feel confused by "uncertain" figures.

According to the recent Halifax index, there was a slight increase of 0.2 per cent on house prices in August and the bank stated the market is stable at the moment.

However, a survey from Nationwide noted house prices had languished over the summer.

Mr Bailey observed both sets of results are right, as the indication is the sector has "flattened".

"The bigger picture is that neither index depicts very strong growth nor very strong price drops - the main prices are just bumping along at their current level," he remarked.
