Property News - Expert: Energy-efficient homes more appealing to buyers

Homeowners who are considering selling their properties may want to ensure there domiciles are as energy-efficient as they can be.

Managing director of the National Self Build and Renovation Centre Tim Doherty said energy-efficient dwellings "are more appealing to prospective buyers".

"Loft insulation can be an effective place to start and can probably save you £300 if you lay it yourself. It's not the nicest of jobs, but it is worth it," he added.

Mr Doherty explained Brits can save cash on their energy bills if they carry out such changes and floor insulation can also help to make an abode greener.

All individuals would need to do is lift their floorboards, lay the insulation and then put their floorboards back down, with this process usually taking about one week, he stated.

A new study from the University of Oxford has questioned the effectiveness of smart meters in the battle for energy efficiency.

This week (September 20th to 26th) is World Green Building Week, which aims to raise the profile of green buildings across the globe.
