Expert gives tips on improving energy efficiency at home

Those looking to buy a home may want to consider how they can make their new property more energy efficient.

Spokesman for the National Home Improvement Show Michael Holmes said Brits could install new boilers, as this will help them to make significant savings.

"Prices start from around £400 for a condensing boiler and homeowners can choose from gas, electric or oil fired. Alternatively, buy a jacket for your boiler," he added.

Mr Holmes noted putting a cover over the device can reduce the cost of energy bills by approximately ten per cent.

He explained Brits need to think about the amount of water they use, because around 30 per cent of the annual amount utilised is due to flushing the toilet.

Mr Holmes also observed a displacement apparatus can save about 40 per cent of water on a yearly basis.

The specialist's comments follow the release of a survey from Sainsbury's Finance, which revealed one-fifth of personal loans taken out during the first half of this year were to pay for home improvements.
