Property News - Home improvements 'can increase the price' of a property

Homeowners who are considering selling their properties should adopt a neutral theme when carrying out home improvements.

That is the view of Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council, who advised individuals not to "impose their own character" on the dwelling.

"Keep it as neutral as possible so that whoever walks in through your front door can accept it on their own terms and not on your terms," he added.

People need to be cautious when doing DIY, as innovation can go the wrong way and may lead to something that will not sell an abode, Mr Leech noted.

He explained DIY can boost the value of a domicile if it is done in the correct manner, but a bad job would definitely reflect negatively on the price.

According to a survey by Bosch, 28 per cent of women have used power tools in order to help them do DIY.
