House builders to construct more sustainable homes?

Raising awareness of the benefits of sustainable homes will persuade house builders to construct more environmentally-friendly properties.

That is the view of sustainability and communications director of Sustain Worldwide Gordon Miller, who said the public needs to think about a more "green" way of living.

"There's an inevitability that green homes will increase in demand in the coming years," he added.

Mr Miller noted increasing legislation means all new homes that are erected have to be energy-efficient.

There are many benefits of eco homes, including a reduced impact on the planet's dwindling resources, improved health and wellbeing and cheaper energy bills, he remarked.

Mr Miller stated homeowners are beginning to see the advantages of installing renewable technologies and government incentives like the feed-in tariffs have helped with this.

The expert's comments come ahead of World Green Building Week, which runs from today (September 20th) to September 26th.

Activities at this year's include a series of synchronised green building events hosted by councils across the globe.
