Rise in million pound property sales in Scotland

A survey has revealed Scotland has seen a 36 per cent increase in the number of domiciles sold that are worth £1 million or more.

There has been a 36 per cent rise in the number of million pound property sales in Scotland during the past year, new figures have suggested.

According to a survey from the Royal Bank of Scotland, London saw an increase of 134 per cent, but in the north and in Wales there were fewer sales of this kind in the first half of this year compared with the same period in 2009.

Economist from the financial institution Martin Ellis said there was a "significant" expansion in the number of these dwellings sold north of the border.

"There was a marked increase in Edinburgh's share of all million pound property sales in Scotland over the past year with the capital accounting for 40 per cent of all such transactions," he added.

Last week, property partner at Russel and Aitken Dianne Paterson suggested people make sure their homes are realistically priced if they want a quick sale.
