Flower decorations could make a property more appealing to buyers

An expert has suggested flower arrangements could "liven" up a home that is up for sale.

Homeowners who have put their properties on the market may want to make their dwellings more appealing to buyers by making inexpensive flower arrangements.

Karen Howes, co-owner of Taylor Howes Designs, said people can create centre pieces using items like cinnamon sticks, baubles and ribbon, which they can get from a local flower market.

She suggested keeping things minimal and having willow branches in a vase instead of a tree, as this could make an abode stand out.

Ms Howes revealed a display using old chandelier crystal drops can "look great".

"In the country, it is all red and green and I raid the hedgerows for holly and ivy and then hang a large clump of mistletoe at the bottom of the stairs," she noted.

Her comments follow the release of a report from NS&I, which found 61 per cent of Brits, are planning to make their own decorations and cards this Christmas in order to save cash.
