Buy-to-let 'is due good business in 2011'

Research has suggested that business prospects for the buy-to-let industry for the year ahead are promising.

The buy-to-let market is set to be profitable in 2011, it has been suggested.

Paragon Mortgages's Financial Adviser Confidence Tracking Index revealed 46 per cent of intermediaries are anticipating an increase in mortgage business this year.

John Heron, managing director of the company, thinks the figures are indicative of a return to health for the sector.

"We are clearly now in a more buoyant phase for the buy-to-let market," he said, adding: "It is extremely encouraging that nearly half of brokers expect to increase business levels in 2011."

The study outlined that the arena showed signs of recovery last year and Mr Heron commented that 2010 was a turning point.

He noted private landlords are seeking to profit from the current shift towards letting property instead of buying.

Director of LandlordZONE.co.uk Tom Entwistle recently claimed this could be occurring because purchasing a home is often unaffordable in the current economic climate.
