Property News - UK sees 'home hotelier rise'

Many people in the UK are playing host to guests who stay longer than eight weeks, it has been found.

The UK is currently experiencing a rise in home hotelier numbers, new research has suggested.

Carried out by Churchill Home Insurance, the study showed that 4.9 million people played host to house guests who remained at the property for an average of eight weeks last year.

The investigation suggested that thousands of students who graduate from university are heading back to their parents' houses because they do not have the financial means to stay in a place of their own.

It was shown that almost 50,000 individuals returned to their family home in 2010 - the majority of whom were graduates.

Vicky Perry, spokeswoman at Churchill, said that with scholars "struggling to find jobs after university and prospective homebuyers struggling to pay rent while saving for deposit, a return to the comforts of the family home is proving increasingly attractive".

Mark Garner of LettingZone recently noted many property owners are renting out their apartments after realising house prices are unlikely to increase.
