Home developers 'targeting larger properties'

Larger properties are currently being targeted by home developers, it has been claimed.

Home developers are targeting larger properties at present in response to increasing demand from movers, it has been suggested.

Steve Turner, head of communications at the Home Builders Federation, explained this is because the sector is primarily a market-driven industry.

The representative noted this direction is also being taken as a consequence of the inability of first-time buyers to get on to the property ladder.

He stated builders will choose to work on sites that they know they will be able to sell, adding individuals who already have a place to live tend to purchase bigger homes when they move.

"That is the market that currently developers are targeting because it is the only market that people are currently buying in," Mr Turner added.

The industry figure had earlier called for greater clarity with regard to the house building planning system in the UK, claiming there still remains too much confusion surrounding the matter.
