Property News - 'Barriers remain' for would-be homeowners

People in the UK are still finding it difficult to own their own home, it has been claimed.

Becoming the owner of a property in the UK is still being hindered by a number of obstacles, it has been suggested.

The National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) claimed significant barriers remain for those eager to get a foot on the housing ladder.

According to the organisation, large deposit demands - alongside economic concerns and pressure on household finances - are causing the property market in the UK to remain stale.

Wendy Evans-Scott, president of the NAEA, said: "Our members have likened the housing market to an obstacle course, with many falling at the first hurdle as the finance required to buy just isn't available."

Those who do manage to obtain the cash they need are finding it difficult to locate the right kind of accommodation, she added.

Her comments come after a recent study by YouGov for the Chartered Institute of Housing revealed high housing costs are having a considerable impact on the financial positions of many people in the UK.
