Best performing economic regions 'see house price rise'

House prices in the top performing economic areas have risen in the last ten years, it has been found.

The top performing economic regions in the UK have witnessed considerable increases in house prices over the last decade, new research has shown.

Carried out by Halifax, the study revealed the costs of properties in these areas have risen by almost £150,000 in this period.

According to the figures, price increases in places such as Liverpool and London were significantly greater than those seen in cities with lower levels of economic activity, including Blackpool and Coventry.

Suren Thiru, housing economist at Halifax, said: "The north-south divide that has opened up recently with the general outperformance of the housing market in southern England appears to reflect the stronger economic performance of these regions."

She added it is "unsurprising" that such disparities have emerged over the last decade.

The findings come after the latest Halifax Housing Market Confidence Tracker revealed one-in-three survey respondents believe average house prices will hike in the near future.
