Buy-to-let funding 'available to older investors'

It is mainly the older property investor who has access to buy-to-let mortgage funding, it has been claimed.

Access to buy-to-let mortgage funding is largely the preserve of older property investors, it has been suggested.

Independent property industry expert Malcolm Harrison noted it is mainly the "more mature" individuals benefitting from the approach.

The specialist observed people will not be able to get hold of the finance in the same way they were prior to the economic downturn, adding: "A buy-to-let mortgage lender is going to want a larger deposit than they wanted three or four years ago."

He explained this trend is an overall theme seen across the market, regardless of whether it is buy-to-let or owner-occupation.

There are a number of funds available, but those who are less well versed in the market may well find it more difficult to get hold of them, Mr Harrison inferred.

His comments come after the National Landlords Association suggested buy-to-let mortgage products need to be sustainable and to show consideration for what may happen in the future.
