'Demand increasing' for buy-to-let property

Optimism is high among landlords regarding their buy-to-let opportunities, it has been found.

Demand for buy-to-let property is soaring at present - resulting in increasing optimism among landlords regarding the sector, new figures have shown.

According to research from LSL Property Services, 49 per cent of proprietors believe now is a decent time to invest, while 68 per cent expect tenant demand to escalate over the next year.

Indeed, the poll revealed 86 per cent of those questioned are hoping to expand their portfolios across the next 12 months.

The increase in confidence has been attributed mostly to the rising demand for rental homes, with 185,600 fewer first-time buyers coming into the property market when compared with prior to the economic downturn.

In the last three months alone, 52 per cent of landlords have enjoyed an increasing number of enquiries from prospective tenants.

The figures follow recent findings from the National Centre for Social Research, which revealed nearly half of all 20 to 45-year-olds in the UK believe it is becoming the norm to rent rather than buy.
