Property News - Housing market confidence returning?

There have been tentative signs of an increase in consumer confidence with regard to the housing market.

Confidence in the UK housing market appears to be returning at a tentative level, new statistics have suggested.

According to the June 2011 Building Societies Association (BSA) Property Tracker, people are currently less negative about the sector's outlook than they were in March.

The study revealed 21 per cent do not feel now is a good time to buy - a figure markedly lower than the 29 per cent recorded three months earlier.

Indeed, 41 per cent of those questioned said they think it is wise to purchase property at the moment.

Paul Broadhead, head of mortgage policy at the BSA, said: "There appears to be a little less negativity in consumers' opinions on the housing market, but it remains to be seen whether this is just a blip."

The BSA acts as a representative for mutual lenders and deposit-takers from all pockets of the UK, which include the 48 building societies currently in operation in the nation.
