National Housing Federation discusses Green Deal

Chairman of the National Housing Federation David Orr is meeting up with the climate change secretary Chris Huhne next month.

The National Housing Federation (NHF) is to discuss the Green Deal with the government at a meeting next month.

Climate change secretary Chris Huhne is to talk to the federation's chief executive David Orr on July 14th to speak about how housing associations can play a role in making sure the initiative is a success.

The scheme is aiming to make it simpler for landlords, tenants and homeowners to improve the energy efficiency of their properties - and Mr Orr is to make a case for the project to be amended.

Mr Orr will suggest that consent for these improvements should not be unreasonably withheld.

In addition, the federation is keen for funding to be available on an equal basis for all providers keen to be involved in the Green Deal.

Around 1,200 independent and not-for-profit housing associations in England are represented by the NHF, whose members provide affordable properties to more than five million people.
