Rising household bills 'most cause for concern'

Many people are feeling stressed about the rising costs of household bills, it has been found.

The rising cost of household bills has been highlighted as the greatest cause for concern among people in Britain.

New research from moneysupermarket.com found that 35.9 per cent of survey respondents believe these increases are causing them the most amount of stress at present.

Moreover, a further 3.7 per cent of those polled earmarked rising mortgage or rent repayments as the factor they worry about the most.

Other reasons for consternation included debts, motoring costs and government cuts.

Clare Francis, personal finance expert at the price comparison website, said: "British households are bearing the brunt of rising prices, with increases in energy, fuel and food costs hitting people particularly hard."

She pointed out the price of gas and electricity is also likely to jump before 2011 draws to a close.

The findings follow recent suggestions from housing and homelessness charity Shelter that home repossession numbers could climb to 45,000 next year.
