Buy-to-let market 'strong at present'

The last ten-to-15 years have been good for the buy-to-let market, it has been claimed.

The UK's buy-to-let market is currently in a strong position and has been performing well for more than a decade, it has been claimed.

Roger Southam, chairman and chief executive of Chainbow, said residential has been the top asset class from a renting point of view for the last ten to 15 years.

The industry expert noted buy-to-let has continued to grow due to people maintaining their aspirations in the sector, adding institution investors are now starting to consider the private rented sector as a place for serious investment.

"All those factors [have] come together and it keeps the fuel burning away to give people confidence in the buy-to-let market," he explained.

Mr Southam said it is "extraordinary" how the field has become so strong and upheld its growth.

Independent property expert Malcolm Harrison recently observed the buy-to-let sector is one that is often viewed as being the preserve of the older investor.
