'Do research' when buying a home in London

People should stick to basic rules when purchasing property in the capital.

Individuals keen to purchase a home in London should endeavour to carry out vigorous research when doing so, it has been suggested.

Stephen Dyer, managing director at Ideal Property, noted prospective buyers need to stick to "basic rules" when considering purchasing a place that they may want to rent out to others.

"Buy near a tube station, don't go for lower ground floor [properties] or for walk-ups without lifts - go for something conventional - a simple, straightforward property," the industry expert suggested.

People may also want to do their own research before buying, rather than just listening to what others have to say.

Mr Dyer explained it is now more important than ever to make sure what they are getting themselves in for when selecting a property.

His comments come after Rightmove's Housing Price Index recently revealed the cost of purchasing a home in the UK dipped in the first half of July - the first time they have fallen this year.
