Property News - Housing market confidence 'slowly rising'

The sector is showing signs of slow growth from 2009 and 2010 levels, it has been claimed.

Confidence in the UK housing market is slowly returning, yet the advances are being made at a very low level, it has been suggested.

Selwyn Lim, director of Mouseprice - an online UK property information source - said levels are improving on those seen in 2009 and 2010 but added this uptake is to be expected.

The industry figure stated: "Confidence is returning to the market and is improving, but we are still a long way away from the heady heights of 2007."

Mr Lim was speaking in response to new figures from the National Association of Estate Agents, which revealed the average number of properties for sale per branch rose from 68 to 74 across May and June.

He observed, however, such an increase in supply was always likely due to the disappointing results of the last two years.

Another explanation for the uptake may be that houses and flats are simpler taking longer to sell at present.
