Property News - 'Overcrowding crisis' for homes in London

Around 20 per cent of children in London are living in overcrowded homes, it has been found.

An overcrowding crisis in London could soon be on the cards, as it has emerged that one-in-four children living in the capital are residing in homes that are over-populated.

Shelter reports that an analysis of figures from the English Housing Survey shows 391,000 kids are living in such conditions.

This means that 24 per cent of youngsters in the city are currently making home in properties deemed to be too full.

Campbell Robb, chief executive of the charity - which has been campaigning for homeless people since the 1960s - said there is no doubt that overcrowding is the hidden housing crisis currently plaguing London.

"Behind closed doors, hundreds of thousands of children are suffering in cramped conditions that are doing lasting damage to their education and wellbeing," he observed.

Mr Robb said it is shocking that this problem still exists in the current day and age, adding the situation is only likely to get worse.
