'Increased optimism' among UK landlords

Around one-quarter of landlords are feeling more optimistic about the market, it has been found.

Optimism among landlords in the UK is on the up, new research has shown.

According to Paragon's Quarter Two Private Rented Sector Trends Report, almost one-quarter (23 per cent) of proprietors are starting to feel better about the prospect for both their property portfolios and their rental income and yields.

Professional landlords in particular are pleased with the possibilities for the future, with 30 per cent claiming they are optimistic at present - compared to the 15 per cent of smaller scale proprietors who said the same.

In addition, those questioned said they expect to build on their residential collections over the next year, rising from the present figure of 12.6 properties to 13.1.

Nigel Terrington, chief executive of Paragon Group - which launched its first mortgages in 1995 - said the report "emphasises the fact that there is significantly more optimism amongst landlords in the private rented sector and the buy-to-let market and that looks likely to increase during the coming quarters".
