Property News - Landlords 'should be proactive' with tenants

The average landlord-tenant relationship is better than many think, it has been claimed.

Landlords looking to forge a good relationship with their tenants should be proactive in their correspondence, it has been suggested.

David Lawrenson, private rented sector expert at LettingFocus.com, noted the average arrangement between proprietors and those renting their property is better than most people think.

Mr Lawrenson was speaking in response to new findings from the National Landlords Association (NLA) that showed most of its members enjoy decent relationships with tenants.

The industry figure noted it is "really important" proprietors act reasonably and attempt to get on well with renters, adding: "I don't think you should be their friend, but you should have a proactive business relationship with them and sort things out quickly when things go wrong."

According to the NLA survey, 61 per cent of landlords described their relationships with tenants as 'very good', 34 per cent said they were 'good' and three per cent claimed them to be merely 'adequate'.
