Rental demand 'up on last year'

2011 has seen more people enquire about renting than they did a year earlier.

Demand for rented property in the UK is on the up, with increasing numbers of people considering their options when it comes to this type of living.

James Davis, chief executive officer at Upad, said more and more individuals are looking to rent rather than buy - but warned demand is continuing to outstrip supply.

The industry figure explained: "We are getting nearly three times as many enquiries as we did 12 months ago and yet we have only got twice the amount of stock."

He noted this represented a 50 per cent increase, with tenant numbers "going through the roof".

Landlords looking to find the most favourable people for their property might be wise to reference those showing an interest to protect themselves, rather than simply accepting those who are willing to pay the most.

His comments come after the National Landlords Association recently found optimism among proprietors is at its highest level for almost four years.
