Property News - Scottish property prices 'on the up'

Residential home prices in Scotland increased by 0.4 per cent during the first quarter of the financial year.


Residential property prices in Scotland escalated across the first quarter of the financial year, it has been found.

New figures from Registers of Scotland - which responds to external drivers from bodies such as the Scottish Parliament and the Law Society of Scotland - revealed the average cost of such a home between April and June rose by 0.4 per cent when compared with the same period a year earlier.

Indeed, the typical price of a house in the three-month spell for 2011 was £153,820, while Scottish Borders witnessed the greatest percentage rise of 15.2 per cent - taking the average cost to £187,046.

The highest price hike was seen in East Renfrewshire, with a typical property setting buyers back by around £221,309.

At the other end of the scale, the most substantial decrease occurred in North Ayrshire, which experienced a drop of 9.5 per cent, bringing costs down to £108,049.
