Property News - Children 'aim to own dream home by the age of 35'

Despite the economic downturn, youngsters are optimistic with regard to their home ownership prospects.

Many children in the UK are hopeful they will be able to afford their own home in the not-so-distant future, new research has shown.

According to a study carried out by Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, 68 per cent of young people are optimistic they will purchase a dream abode by the time they are 35 years old.

In addition, 19 per cent of those questioned claimed they should be able to move into their ideal property when they turn 25.

Despite this, 33 per cent of the children quizzed predicted buying their perfect dwelling is likely to cost them anywhere between £500,000 and £1 million.

Steve Reid, retail director for Clydesdale Bank - which was established in Glasgow in 1838 and is now a member of the National Australia Bank Group - said: "As any parent knows, children can be very ambitious and it's always refreshing to hear about their hopes and dreams, however optimistic they may be."
