Homeowners 'missing out' on low fixed-rate mortgages

Property News - Homeowners 'missing out' on low fixed-rate mortgages

Many homeowners have failed to review their mortgage since March 2009.

Homeowners throughout the UK are missing out on the opportunity to enjoy the lowest fixed-rate mortgages seen in the field for years.

This is the finding of new research carried out by unbiased.co.uk, which revealed 46 per cent of householders have failed to review their mortgage since March 2009.

According to the investigation, standard variable rate versions are still the favoured option among Britons, with 37 per cent selecting this type of deal.

However, with the Bank of England base rate standing at 0.5 per cent for a record 31 months, the website suggested individuals may be wise to take a closer look at the options available to them.

Karen Barrett, chief executive at unbiased.co.uk - which boasts a team of online marketers with more than 30 years experience in the field - said: "Once rates begin to rise, so will the price of fixed rates, meaning that now could well be the perfect time to review mortgage finances."
