Landlords 'looking to improve energy efficiency'

Around two-thirds of landlords would be willing to take advantage of the government's Green Deal.

Many landlords across the UK are eager to bolster the energy efficiency of the properties they own, it has been found.

New research from the National Landlords Association (NLA) revealed around two-thirds of private proprietors would be willing to take advantage of the government's Green Deal.

As part of the initiative, those renting out accommodation would be offered loans to help them carry out energy-saving work on their houses and flats, including the insulation of walls and lofts.

David Salusbury, chairman of the NLA - which represents the interests of around 1.2 million proprietors in the UK - described the Green Deal as a great opportunity for landlords to help the environment and lower costs for their tenants.

Mr Salusbury observed: "The scheme guarantees tenants lower utility bills while providing them with warmer homes and landlords will benefit from long-term improvements to their properties."

It is pleasing that so many people appear open to the advantages to be had through such an initiative, he added.
