Self-build homes 'increasing in popularity'

Self-builds have made a comeback since the recession, it has been claimed.

Self-build homes are increasing in popularity across the UK, it has been suggested.

Raymond Connor, chief executive of BuildStore Financial Services - which claims to be the UK's leading supplier to the self-build, conversion and renovation market - noted such projects have enjoyed a marked uptick since the global economic downturn.

The industry figure explained this route is continuing to witness growth at a steady pace, both in demand and output.

Mr Connor stated: "With the changing housing market creating the perfect conditions, self-build is set to become 'the norm', reaching similar levels to those in Europe."

Increasing numbers are subscribing to BuildStore's land-finding database PlotSearch, while more people are paying a visit to the National Self-Build and Renovation in Swindon.

Mr Connor went on to point out PlotSearch has in the region of 8,000 self-build sites and renovation opportunities at present, while the majority of the locations are priced at less than £100,000.
