Affordable housing supply in England 'on the rise'

There were a total of 60,630 gross additional affordable homes supplied in England in 2010/11.

The number of gross additional affordable homes in England is on the increase, new figures have shown.

Supplied by the Department for Communities and Local Government, the findings revealed there was a total of 60,630 such dwellings supplied in 2010/11, which was an escalation of five per cent on that recorded a year earlier and the highest level seen since 1995/96.

According to the body - the responsibilities of which include setting policy on supporting local government, neighbourhoods and communities, as well as regeneration practices - 2009/10 saw 58,010 of these properties being supplied.

In addition, the research showed 39,170 new affordable homes were provided for rent over the 12-month period, which marked an 18 per cent hike on that reported for 2009/10.

The investigation also discovered there were 53,380 new build affordable abodes in the past year, while 55,250 properties were delivered with grants from the Homes and Communities Agency.
