Houses 'best buy-to-let option'

Those considering becoming landlords should buy houses rather than flats.

Houses are a much better option for potential landlords than flats.

This is according James Wyatt, partner of Surrey based letting agents Barton Wyatt, who noted they will return a much better investment.

He noted in the current market, there is high demand for "family-sized properties" and so people should take this in to consideration when choosing a dwelling to buy.

"The UK is a safe place to invest and with the continuing uncertainty in global stock markets, bricks and mortar are seen as a simple and reassuring investment," Mr Wyatt observed.

In general, flats will have longer void periods, shorter letting times and will come with a double management charge.

Mr Wyatt continued by saying only one-to-two per cent of houses need to be furnished in order to attract interest.

It comes after the Association of Residential Letting Agents stated demand in the private rental sector is reaching capacity.
