'Increases seen' in buy to let mortgage products

The number of buy to let mortgage products on the market has swelled over the last three years.

Significant increases have been seen of late regarding the number of buy to let mortgage products available on the market.

This is according to new findings from independent financial research company Defaqto, which showed a swell of 104 per cent in these types of home loans over the last three years.

According to data taken from Defaqto Matrix, the amount of these mortgages available to purchasers has jumped to 483 at present from the 237 recorded in October 2008.

Indeed, while 70 per cent of buy to let mortgages were available only via intermediaries and providers - or were broker-only products - in 2008, this level has now risen to 86 per cent.

David Black, insight analyst for banking at Defaqto - which has been in operation since 1994 - said: "Although the buy to let sector has contracted in terms of lending levels in recent years, the market is certainly becoming more buoyant."
