Property News - Q3 house prices 'rose slightly'

There was a 0.1 per cent increase in house prices over the second and third quarters of the year.

House prices in the UK increased marginally over the second and third quarters of 2011, new research has shown.

Carried out by Halifax, the study revealed a 0.1 per cent rise in this period - the first time a quarterly escalation has been witnessed since the first quarter of 2010.

Martin Ellis, housing economist at the organisation, noted September saw a 0.5 per cent decline in property costs, which proved to be one of the more volatile months during the spell.

The expert commented: "This continued the mixed monthly picture experienced so far this year with four rises, four falls and one no change since January."

Mr Ellis pointed out such a mixed pattern is indicative of a market finding it increasingly difficult to follow one general direction.

The research follows similar findings from the group, which revealed the price of property in cities around the UK has reached a record high.
