Property News - Scottish house prices 'on the increase'

Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh have all experienced significant jumps in house prices.

House prices in Scotland are on the up, with the last decade seeing marked increases in cities across the country.

This is according to new research from Bank of Scotland, which revealed four of the ten cities in the UK with the highest rises in value over the last decade are located north of the border.

The urban centre to have seen the most sizeable jump is Inverness, where the typical price of a dwelling has swelled from £68,141 in 2001 to £169,257 in 2011 - an increase of 148 per cent.

Other metropolises in Scotland to have experienced considerable leaps include Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh.

Suren Thiru, housing economist at Bank of Scotland - which is regulated by the Financial Services Authority - noted that with the acuteness of the imbalance between housing supply and demand in the country, "homes in cities across the country are typically trading at a marked premium over neighbouring areas".
